Postcard Friendship Friday - FRINK PARK

Since the earliest days of Seattle history, today’s Frink Park has served as a natural woodland park where City residents could enjoy mountain and sound views. Set aside as a "private" park in 1883, the main portion of the park was later purchased by John M. and Abbie H. Frink and gifted to the City on October 25, 1906. Read more about Frink Park HERE.

Frink Park is a 17.2 acre park in the Leschi neighborhood of Seattle, Washington. It is a heavily wooded hillside and ravine through which flows Frinck Creek. Today Frick Place is a recreational drive within the park.

Notice the postmark dated 1914 with the WORLD'S PANAMA PACIFIC EXPOSITION in SAN FRANCISCO 1915 advertised.

Random Hearts - Week 5

Another week of searching for random hearts... I didn't have to go far. I was standing on the deck looking at the sky hoping to catch a heart in the sky. Much to my surprise while searching I happened to look at the trees directly behind the house... I spied a heart among the leaves in the trees.

I am just amazed, Random Hearts are all around us!

Please stop by Random Hearts and view other amazing images!!!!

Postcard Friendship Friday - Vista House

Vista House, Crown Point, Columbia River Highway Oregon

Crown Point is a promontory on the River Gorge about 15 miles east of Portland. The scenic outlook is about 733 feet above the river.

Crown Point Vista House was built from 1916 to 1918 as a memorial to Oregon Pioneers, as a rest stop for weary travelers. With its marble interior and brass fixtures, some Oregonians at the time nicknamed it "The $100,000 Outhouse".

Today the building serves as a rest stop, there is a public restroom with a concession and interpretive center. It was refurbished and the interior restored to its 1918 appearance at a cost of close to $4,000,000; it reopened in 2005. It is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. To read more go to Vista House.

TAG TUESDAY - BANNERS

This week Louise at Kard Krazy challenged us to use BANNERS... this was FUN!
My tag is on a 7 Gypsies tag... with the background on it. I picked the girl from the picture I used on the school tag last week and blew it up to a larger size. The embellishments are from my stash... and there is a lot of it in my house!

Postcard Friendship Friday - Buffalo in Seattle

Another card from my growing collection!!!

In 1913 this card was sent to Miss Ruth Brown in Des Moines, Iowa from Emil of Port Madison, Washington. They were postal card friends. Emil writes, "...I received your card thanking you very much and I hope to hear from you again. Well be good and write soon."

Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle started as the private estate of Guy C Phinney, a lumber mill owner. His estate included about 180 acres. He had a streetcar line that shuttled people between Freemont and the park he created on the western half of his property. He had a small menagerie of animals. Guy passed away in 1893 and in 1899 his wife sold the property to the City of Seattle.

A few years later, 1903, the Lake Washington Cable Railway Co donated their private Leschi Park menagerie. By this time the zoo had a few large animals including elk and bear. I wonder how they acquired a small herd of buffalo?

Today the Woodland Park Zoo is ranked as one of the world’s best zoos.

Random Hearts - Week 3

I continue my search for Random Hearts. This week in Poulsbo I found this one as I was getting in my car in the marina parking lot.... I think the tree is a beautiful heart.

So many times I look in the sky and see hearts...
A long stretched out heart in the sky...
And still another heart overhead.
The hearts in the sky were found different days...
